Schulman, Ann L. (1941-2003)

Ann Caspell was born on July 19, 1941, in Kindersley and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1965. She married Mayer Schulman in March 1965. A role model for nurses, she had an infectious laugh and a warm and caring presence. For many years she provided compassionate care to children and their families in the children's oncology program at the Royal University Hospital and was one of the founders of Camp Circle O'Friends, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings. She held many executive positions in Swim Canada, and accompanied the Canadian Swim Team to many international events and two Olympic games. She was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

As executive director of the Saskatchewan Institute for Prevention of Handicaps, she developed many primary prevention programs for children. Her years of volunteerism led to many awards: Canadian Progress Club Volunteer of the Year; President's Award from Swim Canada; University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association Award of Achievement; and Saskatchewan Sport Volunteer of the Year. She was inducted as an Officer to the Order of Canada in 2002, and died in Saskatoon on April 23, 2003.
